Program Features

Kids Adventures has been at Candlewood since 2012, serving over 500 families during that time. The Candlewood program opens at 7:00 AM and closes at 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Candlewood is open until 6:30 PM on all early release days and open all day on professional days. Kids Adventures follows MCPS Administration Offices for snow days and emergency closures.

The program offers sports, arts, games, and weekly clubs. Snack is served in the morning and afternoon, as well as homework and reading time Monday through Thursday.

In addition to our clubs curriculum, Candlewood also features numerous specialists that visit once a week or once a month in a regular rotation. Almost all of our specialists are included in the tuition price and are optional for students. some specialists that have been featured over the years include:

  • Yoga

  • Zumba

  • Chess

  • Basketball clinics

  • Art

  • Flag football (two time KA tournament champions!)

  • Cheerleading

  • Dance

  • Drama

  • Woodworking

  • Robotics and coding (coming 2018!)

Candlewood offers several optional field trips throughout the year, five kids night out (parent date nights) and one overnight trip. All field trips are reasonably priced and Kids Adventures works with all families to make accommodations.


Kids Adventures accepts POC (Purchase of Child Care) and WPA (Working Parents Association) vouchers through the State of Maryland Child Care Subsidy Branch.  Click here to begin the process.

Kids Adventures offers a 10% discount to siblings and all MCPS Teachers.


Candlewood is open daily, Monday - Friday from 7:00 AM until the school bell time and resumes at bell time until 6:30 PM.


Professional and early release days

Meet Our Staff

Paul Barrow |Site Director Paul has been with Kids Adventures for 3 years. He has worked with children for over 10 years. When not working with children, Paul likes to read, play with his Cane Corso Steel, and workout. 

Sheyla Chiquito | Assistant Director Sheyla has been with Kids Adventures for four years and has worked with children for 6 years. She studies Early Childhood and has gained a lot of experience through the company. She speaks Spanish and enjoys arts and crafts.

Gloria Song | Teacher Gloria has been working with children for 13 years and have been with Kids Adventures since 2014. She enjoys working with kids. She also loves cooking, reading, science, math, all arts and crafts.

Daniel Neves | Aide Daniel has been with Kids adventures since 2016. Daniel grew up in Brasilia, Brazil. He enjoys playing, watching and teaching soccer. He works during the afternoons at Candlewood elementary.

Ravi Lindsay | Aide Ravi has been working with Kids Adventures for 5 years and has been working with children for 9 years. He absolutely loves it! He like to draw, color, sing, dance and play all different kinds of sports. His other hobbies include basketball, watching football and cooking.

Robert Dagenhart | Aide Robert has been with Kids Adventures for three years. He is presently enrolled at Montgomery College, taking classes and studying for his child development certification. He enjoys fishing, is an avid reader, and loves to travel. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with children, playing with them, teaching and mentoring.
